SEPTEMBER 2023

1 Sep – the male flies in at 5:50 and after a quick preen and visit to the box, he sits on the ledge. He flies off at 6:40. The pair fly in together at 8:15 but the male leaves quickly; she follows ten minutes later. There is no further activity on camera.

2 Sep – the male arrives at 6:00 and remains for 45 minutes. The male returns at 13:20 and is surprised by the female arriving at the same time. They go into the box for a few minutes before he leaves. She remains until 13:45 tidying the scrape and preening before flying off.

2 September 2023 – Video: the female spends a bit of time tidying the scrape.

3 Sep – the male lands at 5:45 and sits on the ledge preening but leaves after 30 minutes. The female arrives at 7:35 and goes into the box. She moves to the ledge after 15 minutes and flies out at 7:55. The male is back at 9:45, leaving ten minutes later and the female flies in for five minutes at 10:30. The male lands briefly at 17:10 and 15 minutes later sits on the ledge remaining until at least midnight.

4 Sep – the male remains sleeping on the ledge until 5:50 when he goes into the box briefly, then returns to the ledge. He flies off at 6:25. He is back on the ledge looking well fed at 14:40. He visits the box at 15:20, moving back to the ledge at 15:45, flying off at 16:00.

5 Sep – the female flies in at 1:55 at sits on the ledge. She falls asleep until 5:25 then flies out. The male arrives at 5:45, leaving after 20 minutes. He is back at 7:30 quickly followed by the female; they go into the box. He leaves after five minutes but she remains in the box tending the scrape until 7:55. The male returns briefly at 11:50 and again four hours later.

6 Sep – the male flies in at 6:05 followed by the female. She leaves quickly whilst he sits on the ledge for ten minutes. The female returns at 10:35 and goes into the box and tends the scrape. She flies out at 11:15. The male lands at 17:05 and goes into the box. He flies off at 17:40.

7 Sep – the male lands on the ledge at 5:55 remaining until 6:50. The pair fly into the box at 8:15. The male soon moves to the ledge and flies off and the female quickly after. The male is back at 13:25 and goes into the box until 14:15 when he flies out. He is back briefly at 14:45.

8 Sep – the pair fly in at 3:10 but the female leaves immediately. The male remains and falls asleep until flying off at 6:05. The pair return together at 14:55 and go into the box for a bout of bonding. The female leaves at 15:10 and the male moves to the ledge at 15:20 and flies off at 16:00.

8 September 2023 – Video: the pair have a short bout of bonding in the box.

9 Sep – the female flies into the box at 14:45, flying out at 15:00. He goes into the box 20 minutes later. He is back on the ledge at 16:20 remaining until 20:10. He returns at 21:50 carrying very fresh Teal prey. He leaves it on the platform and flies out at 22:25.

10 Sep – the male flies in at 6:00 and drags the Teal across the platform, then flies off. He returns at 6:25 with the female closely behind and goes into the box whilst she feeds on the Teal. He leaves and she flies off with her meal at 6:35. He is back at 7:05 to feed on a few scraps leaving ten minutes later. This would appear to be a bonding offering on behalf of the male. He returns at 18:05 and remains on the ledge until midnight at least.

11 Sep – the male remains on the ledge until 6:10 when he takes a short flight, then leaves a few moments later. He is back at 7:25 and goes into the box and scrapes in the stones, flying out after ten minutes. He is back at 10:50, calling as he walks to the box but flies out quickly.  He is back in the box at 14:55 making scrapes, then feeds on some scraps on the platform before moving to the ledge. He flies off at 15:05. At 16:45, the female flies in carrying very fresh Feral Pigeon prey. She is panting and obviously out of breath from the chase. She stashes her meal in the box and flies out. The male immediately lands on the platform and grabs the pigeon and starts to pluck and feed on it. After having his fill, he drags it back into the box. The female lands at 17:40, pushes past the male and finds the pigeon. He flies off as she feeds for 15 minutes, stashes the remains, then leaves. The male is back at 19:20 and feeds on the stashed pigeon, he flies out ten minutes later.

12 Sep – the female flies in at 2:35 and sits on the ledge. At 4:40, she moves into the box and feeds on the pigeon. She stashes the remains an hour later and returns to the ledge. She flies out at 6:15 and is replaced by the male. He feeds on the pigeon scraps and flies off with his meal at 6:40. He returns to the box at 13:30 and is soon joined by the female. He quickly leaves but she remains in the box making scrapes and feeding on scraps, then flies out at 13:45. He is back again at 15:50 and goes into the box and scrapes in the stones, then flies out at 16:20, and again at 17:30 until 17:50. The female arrives with part-eaten Feral Pigeon at 19:20 and stashes it in the box, then flies off.

13 Sep – the female returns at 00:45 to feed on the stashed pigeon. She stashes the remains 30 minutes later and sits on the ledge until 3:00 when she flies off. The male lands at 6:15 and feeds on a few scraps. He flies out as the female lands five minutes later. She feeds on the stashed pigeon from the box, flying off with her meal at 6:30. The male is back briefly at 7:15 and again at 13:40. The female flies in with very fresh Feral Pigeon prey at 17:15. She takes it into the box and plucks and feeds on the pigeon. The male lands on the ledge at 18:25 whilst the female is still feeding; he watches her closely. At 19:00, he sees his opportunity and snatches her meal and flies off. She watches him go and flies off five minutes later.

14 Sep – the female flies in at 1:20 carrying fresh Teal prey. She stashes it by a column, then sits on the ledge and remains until 6:40 when she flies off with her meal. She is back quickly and takes her meal into the box where she feeds. She flies out at 7:00 and is replaced by the male. He already looks well fed but still grabs the remains of her meal and flies out ten minutes later. The female is back at 14:40 and goes into the box and feeds on a few scraps, leaving after ten minutes. The male lands at 18:10 and goes into the box and spends the next 40 minutes tidying the scrape. He moves to the ledge at 18:50 remaining until at least midnight.

15 Sep – the female joins the male on the opposite ledge at 1:00, but he leaves 15 minutes later. She searches the box for food before flying off at 6:15. The male arrives a few minutes later and goes into the box, then sits on the ledge until 6:30. He is back 20 minutes later until 7:25. There is no further activity today.

16 Sep – the male flies in at 6:05 for 15 minutes. The female lands at 7:00 and goes into the box. She flies out at 7:45 and the male arrives five minutes later but leaves at 8:05. He is back at 10:35 for 20 minutes. There is no further activity today.

17 Sep – the male flies in at 6:05 until 6:45. The pair arrive at 11:55 but he leaves quickly. She remains until 12:15. He is back at 16:05, goes into the box then moves to the ledge where he remains until 16:50. He returns at 18:15 and goes into the box, then sits on the ledge until at least midnight.

18 Sep – the male remains on the ledge from the previous evening and is joined by the female at 2:40. He is first to leave, at 6:30; she follows ten minutes later. He is back at 7:00 for five minutes. He is back at 17:25, goes into the box and then to the ledge at 17:55. He goes into the box when the female lands at 21:00. She joins him 35 minutes later for some bonding. He then moves back to the ledge, and she sits opposite him where they both remain until at least midnight.

19 Sep – the pair remain on the ledge until the male leaves at 6:30; she follows after ten minutes. The male is back at 10:25 for five minutes. The female returns at 11:05 and goes into the box remaining until 14:05. The male returns at 19:10 looking well fed and sits on the ledge until at least midnight.

20 Sep – the male remains on the ledge from the previous evening and is joined by the female 00:30. They sit opposite each other until leaving together at 6:20. The male is back at 10:15. He goes into the box when the female arrives at 11:45. He is back on the ledge after ten minutes bonding, then flies off whilst the female remains in the box until flying out at 15:10. She is back at 17:20 carrying fresh Feral Pigeon prey which she takes into the box. The male arrives at 17:40 and sits on the ledge watching the female feed on the pigeon. He attempts to snatch her meal unsuccessfully on two occasions but manages to grab the pigeon at 18:35 and flies off with it; the female follows him. He is back with a full crop at 19:10 and remains until at least midnight.

21 Sep – the male remains until 6:30. The pair fly into the box at 10:00 and the female moves to the ledge ten minutes later. She returns to the box for further bonding until the male moves to the ledge at 10:20 and begins preening. She tidies the scrape and snoozes before leaving at 11:30. He goes into the box at 11:50 and also tidies the scrape, and is back on the ledge at 12:05, then flies off at 14:30. She is back at 15:00 carrying fresh Feral Pigeon prey, stashes her meal and leaves after 20 minutes. The male flies in five minutes later, checks the pigeon but leaves without feeding on it. The pair return at 16:05 and the female feeds whilst the male sits on the ledge. She stashes the remains at 16:20 and flies out. The male takes the opportunity to feed for 20 minutes then sits on the ledge with a full crop until flying off at 21:45.

22 Sep – the male flies in at 2:25 and feeds on the stashed pigeon. He moves to the ledge at 3:05 when finished feeding. He has another feed at 6:30. The female lands five minutes later and tries to steal the meal but the male flies off with it. She picks at scraps around the box before leaving at 6:50. The male lands at 12:55 and goes into the box, moving to the ledge at 13:40. He flies off at 15:30. The female is back at 17:20 and goes into the box for ten minutes, before returning to the ledge and flying off a few minutes later. The male flies into the box at 17:55 and moves to the ledge after ten minutes where he remains until midnight.

23 Sep – the female flies in to join the male at 1:20. He sees something in the sky and flies off 15 minutes later. She leaves at 6:25 and is replaced by the male. He is off at 7:05 returning at 10:25 looking well fed, but leaves after a few minutes. The female returns at 10:55 showing a very full crop and goes into the box. She flies out at 13:10. The male returns at 18:25 and goes into the box, then sits on the ledge. He flies off at 22:25, returning 25 minutes later.

24 Sep – the male flies off 00:00 and the female is on the ledge at 1:20. He is back at 1:50 and she goes into the box briefly, then moves back to the ledge. They remain on the ledge until 6:00 when the female goes into the box briefly to tidy up. He leaves at 6:45 and she follows soon after. The male is back at 14:40 looking well fed. He is quickly followed by the female, and they go into the box. He is soon on the ledge whilst she stays in the box. He flies off at 16:00 and she follows. He is back at 19:15 and she joins him at 19:40 and goes into the box. She moves to the ledge at 22:40 and the pair remain until at least midnight.

25 Sep – the pair remain from the previous evening until 5:15 when the female flies off. She returns a few moments later with very fresh Feral pigeon prey but misjudges her landing and bounces off the platform. The male leaves at 6:45 and is back for five minutes at 8:20. The female lands at 13:25 looking well fed, and goes into the box until flying out at 16:00. The male lands 45 minutes later, checks the box then sits on the ledge until flying off at 23:10.

26 Sep – the male flies in at 3:15 carrying very fresh Red-legged Partridge prey. He plucks and stashes it by a column, then falls asleep on the ledge. He grabs his meal at 6:25 and feeds on the platform and stashes the remains. He flies off at 6:45 and immediately returns with the female in tow. She does not stay long, and he follows her carrying his stashed meal. The male returns at 12:30 with a full crop and goes into the box. He is joined by the female at 14:00. He moves to the ledge after a few minutes bonding; she tends the scrape before leaving. He flies off at 16:10 and returns at 19:15 and sits on the ledge until midnight at least.

27 Sep – the male takes a short flight at 6:45 and is soon joined by the female but she leaves quickly. He follows five minutes later and is back at 17:35 for five minutes. The female returns at 18:20 and goes into the box until flying out at 19:05. The male arrives ten minutes later, checks the box then sits on the ledge. The female joins him at 20:05 and the pair remain on the ledge until midnight at least.

28 Sep – the pair remain sleeping on the ledge opposite each other until 6:25 when the male flies off. The female follows five minutes later. The pair return at 16:50 and go into the box for a short bonding session. The male moves to the ledge after five minutes and shows a very full crop. The female tidies the scrape and flies out at 17:20. The male remains on the ledge until at least midnight.

29 Sep – the male remains on the ledge until 6:30 when he flies off. He is back 20 minutes later but leaves again at 7:15. The female lands at 13:10 and goes into the box spending time tidying the scrape. She remains in the box and the male lands on the ledge briefly at 15:05. The male is back on the ledge at 19:20 and remains until midnight.

30 Sep – the male remains on the ledge until 6:55 when he flies off. The female flies in at 8:20 and goes into the box. At 9:55 she moves to the ledge, then leaves. The male returns five minutes later. At 10:00, he runs to the ledge, calls to the skies and flies off. He is back on the ledge with a full crop at 18:10 remaining until midnight.
