NOVEMBER 2023

1 Nov – the female lands briefly at 11:00. The male arrives on the ledge with a full crop at 16:05 and is visited briefly by the female at 18:45. He takes a short flight at 19:55, then leaves at 20:30.

2 Nov – the pair fly in at 6:45 but the male leaves quickly and the female flies off ten minutes later. The male is back at 15:05 and is replaced by the female at 16:10. She leaves after 25 minutes.

3 Nov – the female arrives at 2:50 and remains until 5:25. The pair fly in together briefly at 6:20. The male soon leaves, and the female follows. The male is back with a full crop at 8:20 but quickly leaves. The female flies in with Woodcock prey at 20:25. She already looks well fed and sits on the ledge where she remains until at least midnight.

4 Nov – the female remains on the ledge with her Woodcock prey close by. At 6:30, she grabs her meal and flies out. The pair fly into the box together at 14:30. He leaves a few minutes later, and she flies out at 14:40. The male is back at 15:40 and goes into the box briefly, then moves to the ledge, flying off at 16:05.

5 Nov – the male flies in at 8:55, makes a quick visit to the box then sits on the ledge for a few minutes and flies off. The pair arrive at 15:25 and go into the box. The male leaves soon after but the female remains in the box for 25 minutes, then moves to the ledge before flying off at 16:00. The male is back at 16:45 and remains on the ledge until flying off at 23:20.

6 Nov – the male lands at 1:15 but leaves after just five minutes. The female arrives at 1:45 and sits on the ledge until leaving at 6:25. She returns with the male 20 minutes later. He leaves quickly and she soon follows. The male is back at 9:30 for 15 minutes and lands briefly at 11:20. The female returns at 16:20 for 15 minutes. The male flies in at 16:45, checks the box, then leaves.

7 Nov – the pair make a short visit to the box at 6:45. The male is back briefly at 10:55 with a full crop. The pair are back at 15:20 but their posture and calling suggest an intruder and they quickly leave. There is no further activity on camera today.

8 Nov – the pair fly into the box at 7:05 but the male soon leaves and the female follows ten minutes later. They are back at 8:40 and again the male is quick to leave and the female five minutes later. The pair return at 9:55 and spend ten minutes bonding in the box before the male leaves. The female flies off after a further five minutes tending the scrape and tidying the box. The female lands for a few seconds at 11:55, almost certainly due to intruder activity. The pair are back in the box at 16:10, the male leaving after a few minutes and the female 15 minutes later after tending the scrape. The male is back on the ledge at 16:50 but is distracted by something in the air and quickly leaves. Neither bird returns before midnight.

8 November 2023 – Video: the female continues to regularly tend to the scrape and tidy the box.

9 Nov – the male flies in at 6:55 and sits on the ledge for ten minutes. He is back at 9:50, checks the box then sits on the ledge until 10:00. He returns at 11:05 for a few minutes and again at 13:00. The pair fly in 45 minutes later and go into the box. The male flies out quickly but the female remains in the box for 30 minutes, then flies out. The female lands briefly at 15:50. There was no further activity thereafter.

10 Nov – the pair fly in at 10:10 but the male leaves quickly. The well-fed female sits on the ledge then flies off after ten minutes. There is no more activity until 22:00 when the female flies in carrying fresh Teal prey. She stashes it by a column and then sits on the ledge until 23:25.

11 Nov – the pair fly in at 6:55, the female grabs the stashed Teal and leaves. The male checks the box then follows. The well-fed pair fly into the box at 10:35. The male leaves after five minutes but the female remains in the box until 11:30. The male lands at 12:50 and checks the box at 13:15, then returns to the ledge before flying off at 13:30. He lands briefly at 14:45 but there is no further activity thereafter.

12 Nov – there was no activity on camera until 22:10 when the male lands on the ledge, remaining until at least midnight.

13 Nov – the male remains on the ledge until flying off at 7:05. The pair fly in at 9:20 and go into the box. As usual, the male leaves quickly. The female remains in the box until flying out at 10:45. She returns at 15:55 for five minutes. The male lands on the ledge at 19:05 and remains until 22:30 when something in the sky catches his eye and he flies off. He is back a few minutes later with fresh Snipe prey. He stashes his meal by a column and sits on the ledge. The temptation is too much, and he starts to pluck it 15 minutes later. After a quick feed he is back on the ledge at 23:00, remaining until at least midnight.  

14 Nov – the male remains on the ledge and is joined by the female at 1:10. There are a few moments of bonding when she displaces him, and he then moves to the opposite ledge. He flies off at 1:55, returning at 2:20. At 6:25, the female notices the stashed Snipe, snatches it, and flies out – he follows. The pair return at 13:35 and go into the box. The male moves to the ledge after a few minutes, then flies off; the female departs at 13:55. The male is back at 16:10 for five minutes.

15 Nov – the male flies in briefly at 6:50. He is back at 8:10 and calls loudly whilst looking up to the sky. His actions seem to indicate that there is an intruder in the air. He leaves a few minutes later. The pair fly into the box at 10:45 and there is a short period of bonding. The female is the first to leave, whilst the male flies out at 11:25. There is no more activity today.

16 Nov – the male lands on the ledge at 7:00 for 15 minutes. There is no more activity on camera today.

17 Nov – the female arrives at 10:20, checks the box, then flies out after ten minutes. This is the only activity on camera today.

18 Nov – the pair arrive at 8:30 and go into the box. The male leaves after a few minutes but the female remains until 9:15 when she flies out. The male lands briefly at 13:40 and is back at 14:00 for five minutes. He returns to the ledge at 16:25 looking well fed, but leaves quickly.

18 November 2023 – Video: the female continues to tend the scrape.

19 Nov – the pair arrive together at 7:05. The female goes into the box whilst the male flies off. She follows ten minutes later. The female is back on the platform briefly at 16:15. The male arrives at 16:35 looking well fed and remains on the ledge until at least midnight.

20 Nov – the male remains on the ledge until the female lands at 00:30 carrying half-eaten Feral Pigeon prey, and he flies off. She stashes her meal by a column and moves to the ledge. The male returns at 3:25, snatches the stashed pigeon and leaves. He returns looking well fed at 7:00 and the female goes into the box. He joins her for some brief bonding then flies out and she leaves soon after. The pair return at 14:00 and go into the box. He leaves after ten minutes, and she flies out five minutes later.

21 Nov – the male arrives at 6:05, checks out the box, then moves to the ledge until flying off at 6:35. The female lands at 8:00 and goes into the box and tends the scrape for 15 minutes, then flies out. The male returns at 11:05 and checks the box, then flies out. There was no further activity.

22 Nov – the female, looking well fed, lands at 00:05 and sits on the ledge. She flies out at 7:00 and is replaced by the male. He leaves after ten minutes. The pair fly in at 9:05 but the male leaves quickly and she follows 15 minutes later, after tending the scrape. On a brief visit to see the optician, I noticed both birds were on spire crosses at 15:30 but there was no more activity on camera.

23 Nov – the pair fly into the box at 9:35. The male leaves quickly but the female remains until 10:00 when she flies out. He is back looking well fed at 15:20, leaving after ten minutes. The female flies in carrying the remains of her Woodcock meal at 19:40. She stashes the meal, then sits on the ledge looking well fed and remains until at least midnight.

24 Nov – the female remains until 6:55 when she flies off leaving her meal behind. She returns at 8:25 and grabs her meal and flies out with it. The male lands at 9:10 and calls into the sky then leaves. He is back at 13:20, checks the box then flies out. There is no further activity today.

25 Nov – the female arrives at 4:35 and remains until 7:05. The male lands briefly at 7:30 and the female is back at 8:45 calling loudly, then leaves quickly. She returns at 9:00 and goes into the box until 10:30 when she moves to the ledge, then flies off at 10:55. She is back again at 12:20 and goes into the box for ten minutes, then moves to the ledge before flying off at 12:50. She pays another very brief visit at 15:50; the final event of the day.

26 Nov – the male arrives on the ledge at 1:55 but leaves just 15 minutes later. He is back with the female at 7:30 but neither stay long. They are back again at 15:30 but the male leaves quickly. She spends some time in the scrape, then moves to the ledge before flying off at 16:25.

27 Nov – the male lands at 14:30 and is joined by the female five minutes later; she goes into the box. He flies off after a few minutes and she quickly follows. There was no other activity today.

28 Nov – the male flies at 9:55, checks the box, then leaves. This was the only activity on camera today.

29 Nov – the male lands at 7:15 and goes into the box when the female arrives five minutes later. She flies off almost immediately and he returns to the ledge, flying off at 7:30. The pair are back at 9:05 and go into the box. He leaves quickly and she moves to the ledge at 9:15, flying off after 15 minutes. The male returns briefly at 15:45.

30 Nov – the male lands at 14:10, has a quick look around, then leaves. He is back briefly at 15:35.
