AUGUST 2023

1 Aug – the male flies in at 6:25 quickly followed by the female. They have a brief moment of bonding in the box before he leaves. She moves stones in the scrape then sits looking out from the ledge five minutes later and flies off at 6:40. There is no further activity thereafter.

2 Aug – the male flies into the box at 6:05. He moves to the ledge ten minutes later, then flies off at 6:30. He is back on the ledge at 9:00 until 10:35. He returns briefly at 16:40. There is no further activity today.

3 Aug – the male lands at 4:50 calling loudly. He sits on the ledge until 7:15 and returns at 7:30 followed closely by the female. They bond for five minutes in the box before the male flies out. The female remains in the box until 8:20 when she leaves. The male is back on the ledge at 13:10 looking well fed. He goes into the box 25 minutes later and sits in the scrape, returning to the ledge at 14:00. He has a shower in the heavy rain at 15:55, then flies off.

4 Aug – the male lands at 6:30 for 25 minutes. He is on the ledge briefly at 13:25, calling loudly. He is back at 15:45 until 16:25 and returns to the ledge at 20:45, remaining until at least midnight.

5 Aug – the male leaves soon after midnight. He is back at 6:05 checking out the box, leaving after 5 minutes. He returns at 14:55, wet and bedraggled and sits on the ledge but quickly flies off. The pair arrive together at 17:50 for bonding in the box. Strangely, it is the female that leaves first, at 18:00. The male sits in the scrape for ten minutes, then flies out. He is back on the ledge at 23:40 remaining until at least midnight.

5 August 2023 – Video: the male continues to move stones in the scrape.

6 Aug – the male remains on the ledge until 5:50. The pair fly in at 7:20 but the male leaves quickly; she follows 15 minutes later. He is back at 9:15 and goes into the box, moving to the ledge at 9:50. He remains on the ledge until 16:00 when he goes into the box, flying off ten minutes later. He returns at 18:05 for ten minutes.

7 Aug – the male flies in at 4:15 and goes into the box at 5:25 for five minutes. He leaves at 6:00 and returns at 11:25. He goes into the box at 12:25 when the female arrives but soon leaves. She remains in the box until flying out at 16:10.

8 Aug – the male arrives at 7:15 and goes into the box and moves stones around in the scrape for five minutes, then sits on the ledge. He flies off at 7:30, returning well fed at 14:20. He is back on the ledge ten minutes later, remaining until going into the box at 19:05 for ten minutes; he flies off at 19:20.

9 Aug – the male arrives at 5:50 and sits on the ledge. he flies off two hours later. The pair fly into the box at 9:40. The male leaves quickly whilst the female remains in the box leaving 15 minutes later. There is no further activity today.

10 Aug – the male flies in at 7:10 and goes into the box. He moves to the ledge after five minutes, leaving ten minutes later. At 11:20, he is back and goes into the box, moving to the ledge five minutes later until 11:35. He returns to the ledge at 19:45 remaining until flying off at 23:15.

11 Aug – the male lands at 1:15 and leaves 30 minutes later. He is back at 2:00 and flies off after four hours returning at 6:20 for 15 minutes. The pair fly in at 11:00 but the male leaves quickly, she spends 40 minutes in the box, then follows. He is back at 20:15 remaining until midnight.

12 Aug – the male is on the ledge from midnight until 2:30. He is back at 3:25 and falls asleep, then leaves at 5:30. The pair fly in at 9:55 and bond for five minutes in the box. The male then moves to the ledge and flies off at 10:35, whilst the female remains in the box until 13:45. The male, now well-fed, is back on the ledge at 20:00 remaining until at least midnight.

13 Aug – the male remains on the ledge until 10:05 but there is no further activity today.

14 Aug – the female arrives at 6:00 for ten minutes and is replaced by the male. He sits on the ledge until 7:35. There was no activity on camera thereafter.

15 Aug – the male lands briefly at 6:20. The pair fly in at 13:15 and go into the box. He leaves after five minutes bonding, and she follows a few minutes later.

16 Aug – the female lands at 10:55 remaining in the box until 13:15. The male lands at 14:30 remaining until 16:05. He is back at 20:00 and sits on the ledge until at least midnight.

17 Aug – the male flies off at 1:40. He is back at 6:15 for ten minutes. The female lands at 11:10 and goes into the box looking well fed. She flies out at 15:20.

18 Aug – the male flies in at 6:30 for 15 minutes. There was no further activity today.

19 Aug – the female lands at 2:10 and remains until 5:55. The male flies in at 16:15 and sits on the ledge until 16:45 when the female arrives. He goes into the box but soon leaves. She remains until 20:10 when she flies out and is replaced by the male who sits on the ledge until midnight.

20 Aug – the male flies off at 2:35 and returns at 7:25 leaving at 8:20. The female arrives at 10:00 and shelters in the box from the heat. The pair are back at 14:05 but the female leaves after five minutes. The male moves to the ledge at 14:20 leaving ten minutes later. The male arrives at 18:15 with a full crop and remains on the ledge until midnight.

21 Aug – the male remains on the ledge until flying off at 5:30. He is back 30 minutes later for ten minutes. The pair fly in at 10:15 but the male leaves quickly, she follows at 11:55. He is back at 15:20 until 17:25.

22 Aug – the male flies in at 5:10 until 6:25. The female arrives at 11:55 and goes into the box until leaving at 14:05. The male is back at 20:35 remaining until midnight.

23 Aug – the male flew out at 2:20. He is back at 4:40 until 5:50. He returns with a full crop at 7:35 and sits on the ledge until 13:50, over six hours – probably just digesting his meal. He is back at 16:25 for ten minutes and at 20:20 until midnight.

24 Aug – the male flies off at midnight but is back at 3:30 until 5:55. He returns at 12:05 and is joined in the box by the female. He soon moves to the ledge and flies out, but she remains in the box until flying off at 14:50. The male is back at 14:55 and goes into the box. He moves back to the ledge 15 minutes later until 16:55 and returns at 20:00 for 20 minutes.

25 Aug – the male flies in at 11:55 calling loudly and leaves after five minutes. He is back at 19:00 and goes into the box at 19:25 returning to the ledge after 15 minutes, and flying off at 23:35.

26 Aug – the male lands for ten minutes at 5:25. He is back at 7:05 for another ten minutes. The female lands at 11:00 and goes into the box and flies out two hours later.

27 Aug – the male flies in at 15:25 and goes into the box at 16:00. He moves back to the ledge at 18:15 and flies off 15 minutes later.

28 Aug – the male flies in at 3:55 and leaves at 6:10. The female lands at 9:45 and goes into the box until 10:30. The male lands at 11:15 and is quickly followed by the female who surprises him. He flies out at 11:30 and she leaves at 11:50. The male is back at 13:10 and goes into the box at 15:05 before returning to the ledge and flying off at 15:35.

29 Aug – the female flies in at 1:50. The pair fly in at 16:05 but the male leaves quickly. The female flies out at 17:45. The male is back at 18:20 for ten minutes and returns at 20:10 remaining until midnight.

30 Aug – the male is sleeping on the ledge from the previous evening and remains until 6:50. He is back at 14:55 with a full crop and sits on the ledge until flying off at 18:10. He returns at 20:10 remaining until midnight at least.

31 Aug – the male remains on the ledge until 2:45 when the female arrives, and he flies off. He is back ten minutes later, and she goes into the box. They then sit opposite until she leaves at 5:35 and he follows at 6:40. A quick visit into the city in the late afternoon found both adults sitting on spire crosses. There was no further activity on camera today.
