DECEMBER 2022

1 Dec – there was no activity on camera today.

2 Dec – the female flies in at 12:05 but leaves a few minutes later. She returns at 20:45 looking well fed and carrying the remains of a Feral Pigeon which she stashes on the platform, then flies off.

3 Dec – the female flies in at 13:50, grabs the stashed pigeon from yesterday and leaves quickly with it. There is no further activity today.

4 Dec – There was no activity on camera today.

5 Dec – the female lands on the ledge at 10:05, goes into the box and flies out with a stashed prey item. She is back at 20:45 carrying a small item of prey which she leaves on the platform, then flies off.

6 Dec – there is no activity on camera today.

7 Dec – the female flies in at 12:20, checks out the box and leaves with a stashed Feral Pigeon. There is no further activity thereafter.

8 Dec – the female flies in at 10:50 and picks up a small, stashed item from the platform but leaves a few minutes later without it. She is back after ten minutes and looks into the sky calling loudly, then quickly flies off.

9 Dec – the female flies in at 12:30 looking very well fed and carrying the remains of Feral Pigeon prey. She stashes her meal in the box and accidentally kicks one of the Woodcock from the platform into the box. She flies off a few minutes later.

10 Dec – the female flies in at 1:25 carrying Feral Pigeon prey which she leaves on the platform. She sits on the ledge for 15 minutes, then leaves. She is back at 15:55 and grabs the pigeon stashed earlier in the morning and flies off with it.

11 Dec – the female lands at 13:55 and grabs a stashed Feral Pigeon from the box before quickly leaving.

12 Dec – the female arrives at 12:10 looking well fed with a full crop and carrying part-eaten Feral Pigeon which she stashes in the box. She flies out a few moments later.

13 Dec – the female lands at 10:05 and goes into the box, grabs a stashed Woodcock then flies out.

14 Dec – the female arrives at 9:55 and checks out the box, then leaves a few moments later with a small stashed item of prey. She is back at 15:40 to collect a stashed pigeon from the box and flies off. She returns at 18:35 carrying part-eaten Teal prey, which she drops on the platform and flies off. She is back at 19:30 carrying Redwing prey which she leaves on the platform before flying off.

15 Dec – the female arrives at 10:35, picks up the Teal from the platform and flies out. She returns at speed and dives straight into the box at 12:55, then walks to the platform and looks into the sky calling incessantly; something is attracting her attention. She leaves after a few minutes and is back briefly at 14:25 and again at 14:50.

16 Dec – the female lands briefly at 8:00, already looking well fed. During a brief visit to the city centre this afternoon, I spotted her sitting on the top-most, east-facing cross of the Cathedral at 2:50. There was no further activity on camera.

17 Dec – there was no activity on camera today.

18 Dec – there was no activity on camera again today.

19 Dec – after two days of no sightings, the female flies in at 8:50 but leaves a few moments later. She is back for a couple of minutes at 11:35 but flies out after checking the box. She returns at 19:00 carrying fresh Redwing prey which she stashes, then leaves a few minutes later. The cameras go down at 23:30!

20 Dec – unfortunately, the cameras are down today. We will get them back up asap.

21 Dec – the cameras came back online at 8:30. During this time another two Redwing were added to the stash of prey. The female flies in at 11:05 carrying a half-eaten Feral Pigeon and is looking very well fed. She stashes it in the box and quickly leaves.

22 Dec – there was no activity on camera today.

23 Dec – the rather bedraggled female lands in the pouring rain at 10:05, goes into the box and grabs a stashed pigeon, then flies out. She returns at 16:00 carrying fresh Feral Pigeon prey which she stashes in the box, then leaves.

24 Dec – the female flies in at 12:30, goes into the box then leaves the with stashed pigeon. She returns at 16:10 carrying part-eaten Feral Pigeon prey and stashes it on the platform and leaves. She is looking extremely well fed.

25 Dec – the female flies in at 13:20 and collects yesterday’s stashed pigeon, then flies off. There is no other activity on camera today.

26 Dec – the female flies in at 00:30 and sits on the ledge where she remains until 6:55, the longest period she has been on the site recently. During all this time she is continually watching the skies and does not sleep. She returns at 9:00 and calls loudly from the platform for 15 minutes before flying off. She is back briefly at 13:10 but there is no further activity on camera thereafter.

27 Dec – the female lands on the platform at 8:25 but leaves five minutes later. This was the only activity on camera today.

28 Dec – there was no activity on camera today.

29 Dec – the female lands at 1:45, watches the sky for a few moments then flies off. She is back at 8:05 but leaves five minutes later. She is back at 9:30 carrying the remains of a part-eaten Feral Pigeon. However, she immediately flies off with it. She returns with it 25 minutes later and takes the pigeon into the box, stashes her meal, then flies out. She is back very briefly at 14:35 showing signs of another bird in the area.

30 Dec – the female flies in at 8:30, looks around the city then goes into the box. She picks up yesterday’s stashed pigeon and flies out. There is no further activity until 18:25 when she lands carrying fresh Redwing prey, then sits on the ledge for a few moments before leaving.

31 Dec – the female lands briefly at 8:30 and flies off with yesterday’s stashed Redwing. Sorry, but the cameras have gone down again at 11:35.
