AUGUST 2019

27 August – Photo: the feathers from an item of prey brought in on the 27th have been identified as a juvenile Cuckoo.

31 August – TLC remains on the ledge until 5:55. At 6:25, TFC flies in with a Feral Pigeon as prey and eats it on the platform, moving to the ledge at 7:10 when there is nothing left. TFC flies off 20 minutes later. The adult male flies in at 10:25 and remains on the ledge preening until 12:55 when he is displaced by TLC, who flies off 5 minutes later. There is no further activity until 20:25 when TLC returns and settles down for the evening.

30 August – TLC flies off during the night at 2:20, returning at 3:00. She leaves again at first light, 5:45. The adult female arrives at 6:25 and walks around the box before sitting on the ledge. She flies out at 6:55 and is replaced 5 minutes later by the adult male. He also goes into the box, looking for food before returning to the ledge and flying off. The female is back at 8:05 but leaves immediately and is replaced by the male being pursued by TFC who chases him from the platform. TFC follows 5 minutes later. The adult female returns at 10:45 but leaves at 11:10 when TFC flies in briefly. The female returns at 17:05, well fed and a few minutes later id replaced by TFC who arrives with a part-eaten item of prey. AT 17:25, TFC flies off carrying the prey as TLC flies in. The male lands briefly at 17:30 but leaves upon seeing TLC who is sitting on the ledge with a full crop. She is joined by TFC at 18:10 who has also eaten well and still carrying the remains of its meal. TFC mantles the prey and calls loudly as TLC watches. At 19:00, TLC walks towards TFC and snatches the remains from its talons and takes the meal into the box and feeds. TFC sits on the ledge. Despite already being well-fed, TLC does not leave much when finished eating at 19:25 and returns to the ledge. TFC flies off at 20:10 as TLC settles down for the night.

29 August – The adult female arrives at 8:10 but is immediately displaced by TLC who then follows her from the ledge. She is back at 8:30 and sits preening on the ledge until flying off at 9:20. She returns at 11:50 and remains on the ledge until 16:10 when she is displaced by TLC who once agin gives chase. TLC returns for 15 minutes at 18:40. The adult male flies in at 20:00 pursues by TLC and does not stay. Again, she flies off after 15 minutes. She is back at 20:35 and settles on the ledge for the evening, remaining until midnight at least.

28 August – The adult female arrives at 1:25 and falls asleep on the ledge. She remains until 9:45 when she flies off. Ten minutes later, a Feral Pigeon walks around the box but leaves after a few moments only to return a few minutes later and leave soon after. There is no further activity today.

27 August – There is no activity until 12:40 when the adult male arrives and settles on the ledge preening and dozing. He remains until 17:05 when he flies off. He is back 5 minutes later with a large item of prey and immediately has it snatched from him by TLC who takes it into the box. At 17:35, she has finished eating and moves to the ledge with a full crop where she remains until 18:00 and flies off. There is no further activity this evening.

26 August – the adult male arrives at 5:50 with an item of prey. He flies out a few minutes later and is replaced by the adult female who sits on the ledge preening and dozing. At 8:00, she walks into the box on the arrival of the male but he is immediately displaced by TFC who moves into the box and forces the female onto the ledge. TFC is continually begging and when the adult flies off, runs to the platform to watch her go and then follows her. There is no further activity today – the heat must be keeping them outdoors!

25 August – the adult female arrives at 5:55 and remains on the ledge until 7:00 when she moves into the box and makes a couple of scrapes. She returns to the ledge after a few minutes and after a bit of preening, falls asleep. She is awake again at 7:40 and has another sortie into the box at 8:55 making a few scrapes en route. She is back on the ledge at 9:00, flying off 25 minutes later. The male arrives at 17:50 and sits on the ledge preening until 20:55 when he flies off. There is no further activity and for the first time in a long time, no juveniles have visited the platform.

24 August – TLC leaves slightly earlier this morning, flying off at 4:30. The adult female arrives at 5:50 already with a full crop. She flies off after a few minutes and is replaced by the adult male carrying prey and pursued by both juveniles. After a short tussle, TFC takes the prey from the male but soon looses out to TLC who drags the prey into the box. TFC sits on the ledge whilst TLC plucks the prey. At 6:10, TFC runs into the box and tries to snatch the prey but TLC mantles the prey and drags it away from TFC who moves back to the ledge. TFC has another attempt 5 minutes later but TLC continues to mantle and eat. Another 5 minutes and another failed attempt to snatch by TFC but by 6:25, TLC appears to have finished eating and sits on the ledge. TFC moves in to pick at the scraps but there is little left. TFC flies off at 6:35 and followed quickly by TLC. There is no further action until TLC arrives briefly at 20:10 but leaves soon after.

23 August – as has become the norm, TLC leaves at 5:15; first light. The adult male flies in an hour later and sits on the ledge. He moves into the box briefly at 6:45 on the arrival of the female. There is a little bit of posturing but they remain on opposite ledges until 8:00 when something catches the female’s eye and she flies off quickly followed by the male. He returns at 9:40 with a full crop and dozes on the ledge. He remains there, swapping sides a few times, until the arrival of TLC at 13:00 displaces him but after a quick check of the box, she flies out. She is back again at 15:45 but leaves just 5 minutes later. TFC lands at 18:40 but only stays for a few minutes. TLC is back at 20:55 and settles down for the evening, remaining until midnight at least.

22 August – TLC becomes quite alert at 1:15, looking out over the city before flying off at 1:35. She is back on the ledge at 2:00 and settles down again. She falls asleep until 5:15 when she wakens and flies out 15 minutes later. The adult male arrives at 6:20 and is joined by the female at 6:30. He goes into the box and after a few minutes she joins him and there is calling and posturing. He then moves to the platform where he hides behind the central column. After 5 minutes, she sits on the ledge and he is on the platform opposite. He tip-toes past her and goes into the box, still calling, then flies out at 6:40. She flies off at 7:45 and the male returns 10 minutes later, preening until 8:55 when he takes a brief flight. On his return he is displaced by the arrival of TLC who does a quick check of the platform, then flies off. She is back at 10:10 just as the adult female lands with a Pigeon prey. There is a short tug-of-war as TLC snatches the prey from the adult’s beak. The adult flies off and TLC has the prey which she drags into the box and proceeds to pluck and eat. She stashes the remains by the column at 10:40 then stands on the platform looking out over the city in between dozing. The adult female arrives at 12:25 and is faced with a screaming TLC. Unperturbed, she sees the stashed prey and takes it onto the platform and starts to eat it. At 12:40, TLC walks to the adult and stands in front of her begging – she is ignored as the adult turns her back. Five minutes later there is nothing left and she flies out. Despite having a full crop, TLC searches around the box for scraps, then sits on the ledge where she is joined by TFC at 13:00. TFC flies out at 14:05 whilst TLC snoozes on the ledge. At 15:45, she goes into the box and sits on the bar, returning to the ledge 30 minutes later. She remains on the ledge until midnight at least.

21 August – TLC leaves slightly earlier than normal, at 5:05. She is back briefly calling at 5:45. The adult male flies in at 8:20 but is immediately displaced by TLC who calls after him. She picks at a few scraps on the platform but leaves a few minutes later. The male is back again at 8:40 but chased off by TLC and flies after him. She is back briefly at 9:15, makes a circuit of the box then flies out. TFC lands at 9:25 checks out the box and leaves. TLC returns at 12:55 and picks at a few scraps before sitting on the ledge where she preens and dozes, eventually flying off at 16:10. She is back at 17:20 and sits on the ledge until 19:00 when she flies out. She returns at 20:35 and settles on the ledge but strangely flies off 10 minutes later but is back at 21:30 remaining until midnight at least.

20 August – TLC remains on the ledge from the previous evening flying off at first light at 5:25. The adult female arrives with Pigeon prey at 5:55 feeding on it until 6:20 when she stashes the remains and settles on the ledge with a full crop. She preens and dozes until 10:05 when the incoming calling TLC knocks her off the ledge. TFC soon joins its sibling. TLC gets to the Pigeon stash first and drags it into the box closely followed by TFC. TLC mantles the prey and TFC has to make do with some scraps on the platform before sitting on the ledge at 10:25 as TLC continues to feed for another 10 minutes. Noticing that TLC has finished, TFC sneaks around the column and picks at the remains left by TLC and takes them onto the platform. TLC sits on the bar in the box and TFC is back on the ledge at 10:45, flying off an hour later. TLC moves onto the platform to watch TFC go the settles on the ledge. At 16:30, she walks into the box and picks at some scraps but is soon back on the ledge. TFC arrives at 17:10 and goes straight into the box looking for scraps, flying out 5 minutes later with TLC leaving soon after. At 19:15, TFC arrives with a piece of well-plucked prey and starts feeding on the platform but flies off 10 minutes later. TFC is back at dusk, 20:40 and has a quick check in the box before settling on the ledge for the evening.

19 August – Photo: TLC with what looks to be a Black-tailed Godwit as prey.

19 August – TLC remains on the ledge from the previous evening until 5:35 when she flies off. The adult male arrives at 6:10 and sits on the ledge preening until 6:45 when he flies out. TLC returns at 7:15 with a prey item – a juvenile Black-tailed Godwit. She takes it into the back of the box and starts plucking. She stashes the remains by the column at 8:05 and sits on the bar in the box with a full crop. At 8:50, the adult female flies in with a pigeon but before she has even landed, TLC snatches it from her and drags it into the box. The adult flies off and despite already being well-fed, TLC feeds for 10 minutes on her new Pigeon meal before stashing it and returning to the box. At 10:20, she walks out onto the platform and looks over the city then sits on the ledge. TFC arrives 20 minutes later and spots the Pigeon and starts eating under the watchful eye of TLC. TFC drags the meal closer to the column so TLC cannot see and continues eating. At 11:05, the prey is visible again to TLC and she watches closely but does not act. There is little left by 11:55 but TFC has not finished and drags the remains of the Godwit from beside the column and starts eating not bothering to try and hide from TLC who just watches until 12:15 when the remains are once again stashed. TFC moves to the ledge with a full crop. TLC decides she needs a snack at 13:40 and tucks into the stash. At 14:05, TFC walks into the box and TLC stops feeding walks over to TFC and stands on her tail. This forces TFC off the bar and towards the meal that TLC was eating; TFC starts feeding and moves to the ledge when finished at 14:20. TLC joins TFC at 14:35. They both start to doze. TFC flies off at 16:10. Something overhead attracts TLC’s attention at 17:35 and she goes into the box. After a few minutes, she feeds on the scraps of the Godwit then sits on the bar until returning to the ledge at 17:55 and flying off a few minutes later. The adult male flies in at 18:05 and feeds on the scraps around the platform and box then sits on the ledge at 18:25, then falls asleep. TLC’s arrival calling loudly an hour later forces him from the ledge. She looks around the box before settling on the ledge where she remains until midnight at least.

18 August – the Stock Dove remains on the ledge from the previous evening until it flies off on the arrival of TLC at 5:25. She has a quick look around the box at 6:10 and flies off soon after. The adult male flies in at 7:25 with a full crop and starts to doze, then falls asleep at 8:00. He flies off on the arrival of TLC at 10:45, who chases after him. He returns at 16:10 but is immediately chased off by the arrival of TLC who sits on the platform looking out until flying off 30 minutes later. She is back at 18:10 with a full crop and sits on the ledge until midnight at least.

17 August – as is becoming the norm, TLC leaves around first light, flying off at 5:15. The adult male replaces her at 5:35 and settles on the ledge until 6:00 when he leaves. He returns with a Mistle Thrush as prey at 9:45 and has it snatched from him immediately by TLC who takes it into the box. He sits on the ledge for a few minutes then flies off. TLC plucks her meal at the back of the box then settles on the bar when she has finished at 10:10. The male is back briefly at 11:25 and TLC walks to the platform to watch him go, then returns to the box. She is back on the platform looking out at 13:55 then moves to the ledge at 14:20, flying off 30 minutes later. A Feral Pigeon lands on the platform at 20:25 and settles down for the evening remaining until midnight at least!

16 August – TLC remains on the ledge until 5:15 when she flies off. The adult male replaces her ha few moments later but before he has a chance to even settle hid feathers, he is supplanted by TLC who flies out 15 minutes later. The adult male returns at 12:30 and sits on the ledge until flying off at 13:50. He is back 10 minutes later but is soon replaced by TFC who has a look around the box before moving to the ledge and flying off at 14:45. TLC is back at 15:30 with a full crop and sits on the ledge until 17:05 when she flies off briefly. She is joined by TFC at 18:10 who checks out the box and sits on the bar. TLC is unhappy and walks into the box to chase TFC out.  A few minutes later, TFC has another attempt to move into the box but TLC will not allow it. But TFC will not give up and has further attempts soon after before settling on the ledge. TLC leaves the box at 18:35 and sits on the platform near TFC until 18:45 when TFC flies off and TLC moves to the ledge where she remains until midnight at least.

15 August – TLC flies off at 5:25. There is no more activity until the adult male arrives with a full crop at 9:35. He sits on the ledge dozing but is rudely awakened by the arrival of TLC calling loudly at 9:55 and he flies out. She searches the box before flying off at 10:00, returning after 35 minutes. Something catches her eye at 12:30 and she flies off returning at 13:05. She leaves for 10 minutes at 14:50 remaining until 16:05. TLC is back at 21:30 and settles down for the evening, falling asleep 10 minutes later.

14 August – Peregrine Watch Day. TFC arrives in the box at 6:10 with partially plucked prey and proceeds to eat. It stashes the remainder by the column at 7:05 and sits on the ledge. It flies off at 8:30. TLC lands at 9:40 and goes into the box briefly before flying off. A rather wet TLC lands at 13:30 and goes into the box to shelter. (The Watch Group gave up and went home as it was too wet!) TFC returns at  15:00 and goes into the box. TLC is unhappy and starts to have a flapping frenzy to push TFC onto the ledge; TLC falls asleep in the box until 16:25 when she moves to the platform. TFC flies off at 16:45 and is followed a few moments later by TLC. She returns at 17:05 and TFC lands 5 minutes later. After an hour, TFC flies off but TLC does not leave until 19:15. The adult male comes in at 19:40 and checks the box before moving to the ledge where he preens for 15 minutes before escaping when TLC flies in. She checks the box at 20:00 and around the platform before settling on the ledge. She flies off 10 minutes later but is back for the evening at 21:35.

13 August – Video: Another Tug-o-War between the two juveniles. Neither wants to give in and they fall off the platform!
13 August – Video: TLC snatches prey from the adult female before she has even landed properly.

13 August – TFC remains on the ledge until 5:20 when it flies off. The adult female arrives at 7:35 and picks up some of the scraps on the platform. She then goes into the box for a few moments before moving to the ledge. She flies off at 9:10. She returns with Pigeon prey at 10:05 but before she is able to land properly, TLC has taken the meal from her. TLC goes straight into the box and mantles the prey and the adult flies off. As soon as she has gone, TLC takes the meal into a corner and starts plucking and feeding. At 10:35, TFC arrives and heads for the meal and despite TLC’s defence, grabs hold of the prey and a tug-of-war ensues. A minute and a half later and they both fall from the platform still fighting over the meal! TLC must have won the battle as TFC arrives with the prey at 10:40 and searches around the box for scraps and then settles on the ledge. It is back in the box at 11:30 looking for more scraps, then returns to the ledge, flying off at 12:00. TFC is back briefly 25 minutes later. TLC returns at 12:40 and has a quick look in the box. She is joined by TFC at 12:50 and both juveniles sit on the ledge until 13:25 when TFC flies off. TLC preens and dozes until departing at 15:10. There is no further activity today.

12 August – TLC arrives at 6:10 with prey that appears to be a Swift and goes straight into the box. She plucks and eats it in the corner of the box and 20 minutes later is sitting on the ledge with a full crop, flying off after a further 5 minutes. The female lands at 7:50 with a full crop and a half-eaten pigeon. She stashes the pigeon by the column and sits on the ledge. She is joined by the male at 8:15. He calls to the female quietly, sees the stash and starts to eat it. The female sits watching him. He has finished at 9:15 and walks past the female into the box calling quietly. She follows him and he then replaces her on the ledge. A few minutes later and she has ousted him again and he returns to the box. At 9:25, the male suddenly leaps out of the box and is immediately followed by the female. TLC is back at 12:20 and goes into the box and finds a few scraps to pick at. She sits on the ledge at 12:40. She is joined by TFC at 13:05 who spies a scrap left in the box and starts to feed on it. TLC runs  into the box and tries to take it from TFC but it take the prey onto the platform and mantles it. TLC sits on the opposite ledge and watches. When TFC has finished, it notices another scrap next to where TLC is sitting and proceeds to pick at it. TFC turns its back on TLC who then proceeds to bite TFC’s tail and forces it into the box. There are a few more scraps that TFC eats and then sits on the ledge at 13:25. TLC makes a brief visit to the box and TFC does likewise at 14:50. TFC flies off at 15:15 and TLC 10 minutes later. AT 16:50, TFC flies in with the scraps of a previous meal and picks at them. It sits on the ledge at 17:15 and dozes. Something grabs its attention overhead at 18:05 and TFC flies off. It is back at 22:30 and remains until midnight at least. This is the first time that TFC rather than TLC has remained on the platform overnight.

11 August – TLC remains on the ledge until 6:05 when she flies off. TFC arrives with a full crop at 9:35. TLC returns at 10:25, also well fed, and sits on the opposite side, then moves into the box at 10:55. Both juveniles are very dozy. At 12:00, TLC lies flat on the platform – something I haven’t seen her do for a while. An hour later she is up and preening. At 13:30, TFC has a stretch and then flies off. TLC remains rooted to the platform hardly moving more than a few inches until 15:10 when she flies off. There is no further activity today.

10 August – TLC is still on the ledge from the previous evening and is joined by TFC at 5:30. The flapping of TLC’s wings 10 minutes later startles TFC and it flies off. TLC flies out at 5:55, returning after 10 minutes but is off again at 6:20. She is back at 6:40 for another 10 minutes, then back at 7:15. She is off again at 7:35 and back at 8:10. She sits on the ledge looking over the city and takes a brief flight at 9:30. She is joined by the female who is immediately frightened off. TFC joins TLC on the ledge at 9:40. They both fly off at 9:55 and TFC is soon back. TFC flies off at 10:30 and TLC returns at 11:15, flying off 15 minutes later. At 12:35, TFC lands and goes into the box searching for scraps but flies out 10 minutes later. Both juveniles fly in together at 12:50. TFC leaves at 13:05 and TLC follows at 14:35. The adult female lands at 14:40 but is chased off by the arrival of TLC who flies after her. The adult female lands again at 14:50 with the same result, being chased off by TLC. TFC joins TLC at 15:15 and TLC flies off 30 minutes later and TFC after another 5 minutes. TLC is back at 16:40 and remains on the platform until flying off briefly at 17:50. She is off at 19:00 and returns at 20:10, settling on the ledge and falls asleep at 20:55 remaining until midnight at least.

9 August – TLC and TFC arrive simultaneously at 6:10 calling loudly. TFC is first to investigate the box for food but there is none. TFC sits on the ledge with TLC on the bar in the box. TFC flies off at 6:35 and TLC watches it go. She moves to the ledge at 6:45 and flies out 5 minutes later. A rather wet TLC is back at 7:20 and goes into the box. She has a quick look out from the platform at 7:30 but is soon back in the box and again 10 minutes later. TFC arrives at 7:50 and goes straight into the box. There is a lot of noise between the two siblings and they both settle on the bar. TLC moves to the ledge at 8:10 and is followed soon after by TFC. At 8:15, TLC flies off and TFC goes into the box. At 8:35, TFC runs to the ledge and flies out. TLC is back at 10:05 and settles in the corner of the box. TFC returns at 10:25 and sits on the ledge and starts to doze. At 11:10, it has a quick look around the box and platform for food then returns to the ledge, flying out a few minutes later quickly followed by TLC. She returns within 5 minutes and goes into the box and remains there until the arrival of the adult male at 14:45. She greets him on the ledge calling loudly. The male has a quick tentative look in the box for food then sits on the ledge with the juvenile calling to him and he flies off 5 minutes later. TLC flies off at 15:30 and returns after 20 minutes but she does not stay long. The adult male arrives at 16:10 but flies off as soon as TLC lands at 17:25 with a full crop. It is raining at 18:15 and she shelters in the box for 20 minutes. At 19:05, she starts to doze before falling asleep at 19:35. She remains on the ledge for the rest of the evening.

8 August – TLC remains sleeping on the ledge until 5:30 when she moves to bar in the box. She is on the ledge 30 minutes later looking out and then flies off. The adult female flies in at 9:30 with Pigeon prey and feeds on it on the platform. She almost has it snatched from her by the arriving TLC but the juvenile already has prey in her talons and takes it into the box. However, she is continually begging at the female, calling loudly. So, despite the fact that TLC has brought in fresh prey and there is still prey in the box, she ignores them and goes to the adult waiting to be fed. The adult obliges – the innate response to both beg and feed is obviously still prevalent at this age. At 9:45, TLC takes the prey into the box so now has three meals to choose from. The adult female sits on the ledge with a very full crop. A few moments later the adult male lands and picks up a scrap left on the platform. He eats it as TLC feeds on the piece stolen from the female who now flies off and is quickly followed by the male after he has had his snack. TLC moves to the ledge at 9:55 and flies out. At 10:20, TFC arrives and heads straight for the prey in the box. There is plenty to chose from but choses the piece that TLC snatched from the female and fed on. Possibly because it was already plucked and easier to get in to. When that is finished, the Starling left over from yesterday is the target. TFC finishes eat at 11:15 (55 minutes) and stashes a few scraps by the column then sits on the ledge. TLC flies in a few minutes later and heads for the remaining item of prey that she originally brought in at 9:30. TFC walks into the box, sits on the bar and watches TLC eating. When she has finished she also sits on the bar. At 11:30 she walks behind TFC, bites its tail and claws its back. She does this three times eventually forcing TFC to return to the ledge. TLC remains in the box on the bar. At 13:00, TLC walks to TFC and starts pecking at its feet. TFC pecks back and TLC moves to the opposite side. Twenty minutes later she goes into the box and feeds on the stashed prey for 10 minutes before returning to the ledge. TFC flies off at 14:55 and TLC 30 minutes later. The adult male arrives at 16:45 and finds a few scraps on the platform. He sits on the ledge at 17:05 when he has finished, falling asleep 20 minutes later before flying off at 18:25. TFC is back at 19:10 and goes into the box and finds a few small scraps. It flies off at 19:20 as TLC flies in. After a quick search in the box, she moves to the ledge. A second search a few minutes later then she flies out for the evening.

7 August – TLC remains on the ledge overnight and starts looking for food at 5:30 but there is none. She sits on the ledge until 6:15 when she notices an adult flying past. She calls out and leaves a few moments later. She flies in with a Starling prey at 7:25 but looks as if she has already fed well and stashes it by the column then returns to the ledge before flying off at 7:40. The adult female lands at 9:35 but is seen off immediately by the arrival of TLC who checks the stash and then goes into the box for a few minutes before returning to the ledge. She is back in the box snoozing at 10:00 but is interrupted by the arrival of TFC 20 minutes later. TFC walks over to the stash and tries to grab it but has it snatched away by TLC who re-stashes it in the box whilst TFC sits on the ledge. TLC sits opposite TFC and they both preen and doze in the sunshine. At 10:45, TFC manages to sneak around the central column and get to the prey but TLC sees what is happening and runs over and snatches it, takes it to the corner of the box, mantles it whilst TFC returns to the ledge and the stashes it again. TLC then stands on the platform in front of TFC blocking a quick route into the box. They remain in this position until 11:55 when TFC walks along the ledge then makes a detour into the box and grabs the prey. It eats it in front of TLC who seems unconcerned. TFC has finished 10 minutes later, leaves the prey on the platform and returns to the ledge, flying off at 12:10. TLC remains on the ledge preening and dozing until 15:25 when she flies off returning at 17:35. She remains on the ledge for the rest of the evening falling asleep at 21:00. She ignores the prey in the box.

6 August – TLC remains on the ledge, swapping sides at 00:15 and falling asleep. At 5:05, she has a quick check on the stashed prey but returns to the ledge. She flies off briefly at 5:30 and goes into the box at 5:40 for 5 minutes. She flies off at 6:30. The adult female lands at 7:10 and picks up the stashed Pigeon and feasts on it finishing at 7:30 and settling on the ledge. She is joined by the male who goes into the box and picks up a scrap and flies out. He returns 10 minutes later, finds another scrap and flies off with it. A few moments later, the female leaves as TLC lands calling loudly. She searches for food then settles on the platform before moving to the ledge. She is back looking around the box at 8:30 and then the platform 15 minutes later. TFC arrives at 10:50 and does a search of the box watched by TLC who joins in a few moments later. They are both on the ledge at 10:55. TFC is restless (hungry?) and is searching in the box at 11:00 remaining for 20 minutes when both juveniles are on the platform. TLC is the one to start calling loudly and after a few moments, TFC flies out. TFC is back at 12:30 and goes into the box followed quickly by TLC. They sit on the bar at the back. TLC looks for scraps on the way to the platform at 13:05 and TFC sits on the ledge a few minutes later. They fly off together at 14:25 but TLC is soon back and is joined briefly by TFC at 14:45; both birds calling loudly. TFC is back at 14:50 and TLC flies off but returns 10 minutes later. Something catches their eyes at 15:20 and TFC takes off. TLC watches it go but remains on the platform. TLC leaves at 17:15. TFC is back at 18:10 and looks around the box before sitting on the ledge and flying off after 40 minutes. An hour later and the adult male arrives quickly followed by the female but they leave immediately as TFC lands calling loudly. TLC joins its sibling at 20:00 and both juveniles snooze on the ledge. TFC flies off at 20:40 whilst TLC remains until midnight at least and falls asleep at 21:15.

5 August – the adult female arrives at 5:30 and goes into the box and picks at a few scraps before settling on the ledge. She falls asleep 20 minutes later but flies out at 6:10. Five minutes later she lands with a Feral Pigeon as prey but has it taken from her by the immediate arrival of TLC. The juvenile drags it into the box but rather than eat it, stashes it by the column and sits on the ledge. Something catches her eye at 7:20 and she flies off and does not return until 9:55. She checks on the stashed prey but makes no great effort to eat. She hides in the shade of the column at 10:35 and dozes until 11:45 when she preens for a while then continues dozing. At 12:50, she goes to the prey and starts plucking and eating. She has finished 15 minutes later and returns top the ledge and continues sleeping. She takes a brief visit to the box at 15:15 but resists the temptation of feasting on the stashed prey. At 16:05, she is back in the box feeding on the Pigeon but just for 5 minutes and then returning to the ledge. Her sibling, TFC arrives at 16:45 and TLC watches as TFC goes into the box and find the Pigeon. She follows but makes no attempt to stop TFC feeding, then returns to the ledge. At 17:10, the adult female brings in another Pigeon and TLC snatches it and takes it into the box forcing TFC to drag its meal onto the platform. The adult flies off. Both juveniles tuck into their respective meals. TLC has had enough 5 minutes later and moves back to the ledge and watches TFC feeding who is a much slower eater and does not finish until 17:45. It returns to the box and eyes up the remains of TLC’s meal but after a few pecks, sits on the ledge. The games start 5 minutes later with TLC biting TFC’s tail. TFC responds in kind when TLC walks past. They move to opposite ledges after a few minutes. At 18:50, TLC goes into the box and feeds on the stashed prey for 5 minutes, then returns to the ledge. She sits next to TFC 20 minutes later, then stands on the platform directly in front of TFC. She is back in the box at 20:00 and feeds briefly on the stashed prey, the returns to the ledge. It is TFC’s turn to have a nibble at the prey at 20:45, watched by TLC. TFC recognises this and drags the prey next to the central column so that TLC cannot see it from where she is sitting. At 21:00, TLC notices TFC feeding and walks over to investigate but TFC takes its meal into the box. TLC returns to the ledge and 5 minutes later, TFC stashes the remains and sits on the ledge before flying off. TLC remains until midnight at least.

4 August – the adult male lands briefly at 5:45. A Stock Dove make a brief appearance at 6:35 and again a few minutes later. He flies off at 8:55. The Stock Dove is back for a few moments at 9:35, again 20 minutes later, and at 10:00. There was no further action until 18:20. The weather suddenly changed and there was a torrential rain storm. A few moments later a rather bedraggled TLC flies into the box and sits on the bar at the back. The storm was short and 20 minutes later she was on the platform looking out and then moved on to the ledge. She leaves at 20:00.

3 August – a Stock Dove lands briefly at 6:30 but takes off in haste when it sees the adult female arriving. She picks at a few scraps on the platform then settles on the ledge preening. She remains until 8:55 when TLC flies in calling. TLC looks around the box and platform for food and finds the stashed Starling from yesterday by the column. She takes it into the box to eat stashing what is left by the column at 9:10. She sits on the ledge looking out over the city. At 9:50 a white Pigeon flies by very close and TLC prepares herself to chase but only half-heartedly and stops before she leaves the platform. She goes into the box and sits on the bar at the back. She returns to the platform at 10:20 and eventually onto the ledge at 12:30 and dozes. At 14:10 something catches her eye and she flies off. TLC returns at 16:10 and retrieves the stashes Starling by the column. She is on the ledge 10 minutes later remaining until 18:05 when she goes into the box picking at scraps but is back 5 minutes later. She flies off at 18:25. The adult female lands briefly at 20:30 and is back again a few minutes later. At 7:55, TFC arrives and looks around for food but is disappointed and flies off a few minutes later. The adult male flies in with prey, a Starling, at 10:15 and has it snatched from him immediately by the arrival of TLC who drags it into the box. The male flies off and ten minutes later TLC has had her fill and stashes the remains by the column and then sits on the ledge. At 12:10, she returns to the stashed Starling and feeds again for 10 minutes. She is back on the ledge until 14:35 when she picks up the remains of the prey and picks at it, stashing the remains by the column. She is back on the ledge at 14:45 and flies out 15 minutes later. There is no further action today.

1 August – Video: TLC encounters an intruding adult female!

1 August – TLC remains on the ledge from the previous evening. At 5:20, she ventures into the box before returning to the ledge. At 6:15, TFC arrives and walks onto the platform a picks up a small item of prey that was stashed by the column. It feeds on it for the next 20 minutes watched by TLC and then goes into the box and sits on the bar. Five minutes later, TLC joins TFC in the box and their game of tag recommences initiated by TFC who jumps on TLC’s tail. TFC is chased onto the ledge. A few moments later TFC has another nip at TLC but is forced from the platform. TLC sits on the ledge until 6:50 when she flies off. The adult female arrives at 7:30 and sees a number of scraps lying around and proceeds to eat them. After 10 minutes she is interrupted by TFC who snatches a piece from her but drops it and goes into the box and watches the adult feeding. They both have a piece and eat at opposite ends of the platform. The adult moves to the ledge when she has finished. TFC is not so efficient and gives up at 8:00. The female flies off and TFC follows her. TLC arrives at 9:25 and spot the bit left by TFC and feeds on it for 5 minutes. She finds more scraps at 10:20 and sits on the bar in the box when she has finished, moving to the platform at 10:40 and eventually the ledge at 11:35. She sits preening until 12:10 when she suddenly goes into a defensive pose on the arrival of an adult. This is not the resident adult but an intruding female with an orange colour-ring. Unfortunately, The ring cannot be read accurately. The intruder goes into the box and is followed by TLC but she soon flies out in haste. The intruder is a young adult with a few brown feathers in the wings. She walks around the box looking for food and picks up a few scraps before flying off at 12:40. The intruder is probably at the age where it will be looking for a breeding site of its own and if it remains in the area, could change the whole dynamics of the resident pair. TLC returns at 13:45 unperturbed by her interaction with the intruder. She remains on the ledge until the rain starts at 15:50 and goes into the box where she remains until 16:05 when she flies off. TFC is back at 18:15 looking for scraps and finds some in the box. It feeds on them and then flies off at 18:45. The resident adult female lands a few moments later but leaves on the arrival of TFC who then follows. TFC returns calling at 19:20 but only stays a few minutes. It is back again at 19:50 and picks at feathers trying to find food. It moves to the platform 15 minutes later and flies off after a further five. There is no further activity this evening.
